Getting ready for your session

I can't wait to welcome you to your Christmas Photo Session. Here's a few simple tips to help it go swimmingly . . .

What to wear?

There are lots of options:

  • There's no need to buy expensive outfits. The supermarkets are currently well stocked with festive pyjamas, jumpers and outfits OR

  • Keep it simple? Jeans and a plain top or jumper are timeless and the image won't age in years to come.

  • Party dress or outfit? If you have one, feel free to bring it, you can always change into it. The red backdrop is well suited to a sparkly party dress.

  • We should have time for one outfit change but if you are unsure, feel free to bring a few options.

What to bring?
  • For multiple siblings and younger ones, you might want to bring a toy to keep them occupied if their brothers/sisters are being photographed separately.

  • A cheeky bribe! The promise of a treat can work wonders but try to hold them back until your child has been photographed.

  • You may want to bring a hair brush and hair clips. I have wipes and tissues. If your child is still in nappies, please bring a couple of spares.

  • A drink and a snack. Children might get a little thirsty with all that smiling. If you can avoid chocolate and 'Wotsit' type snacks, that would really help me with tricky editing!

  • Some parents download a favourite children's episode to their phone, I have had parents holding a phone over my head while I get the shot of them looking in my direction. Also, bookmark any videos you have of smaller pre-schoolers laughing - this can make them giggle for photos. BUT, please try to keep the phones and ipads hidden until they are absolutely needed (I find that once the phone is handed to the child, they may not want to engage or smile for any images).

  • Purely optional but if you have one, a festive toy or teddy, particularly a traditional one, gives the child something to hold and helps keep their attention during the session.

  • A good sense of humour and a willingness to clown around. Parents being really silly are the best smile harvesters!

How to find us:

My studio is in my garden at 169 Stroud Road, Shirley, B90 2JX. Please just ring the doorbell and I will come along and get you. If for any reason the ring doorbell doesn't connect with the studio, please call me on 0751 092 0924 and I will come and get you.

Please park across my drive only and avoid blocking neighbours drives. There is also space to park at the top of Watwood Road.

Please arrive promptly for your session, if you are late this will be deduced from your session time as I have multiple sessions booked in one day and do not have a waiting area. Thank you.
